How To Avoid Common Advertising Mistakes

HOW TO AVOID COMMON ADVERTISING MISTAKES

Advertising isn’t hard to do. You prepare an advertisement or
write a classified ad to sell your product or generate interest
to send people more information. But the way most people make
mistakes is either by their inability to write effective ad copy
and by sending it to be published in the wrong publication. Here
are some pointers to follow:

Writing Effective Copy Never try to sell anything costing more
than $5 in a small display ad or a classified ad. First of all,
you don’t have enough room to tell people everything they need
to know to entice them to order.

Instead, you need to employ the “Two-Step” method of
advertising. Request the reader to send you $1 or 4 first-class
postage stamps for more information. When they respond, you will
send them a brochure, flyer, order form and cover letter so they
can place an order for the real product.

Now that pricing is out of the way lets talk about writing your
ad copy. The best way to learn how is to read the ads other
people have written. Don’t copy them word-for-word, but use them
as a guide to write Your Own ads. Once you get the hang of it,
you’ll be writing effective ad copy just as well as the pros.

Advertising in the Right Publication. Although this may sound a
little silly and you think it is only common sense to know this
_ people will often overlook this fact when choosing the
publication they will be advertising in. Instead, they will look
for the lowest price for the amount of circulation they receive.
Unfortunately, this does not work out. Even though you need to
look for good deals that make it easy on your pocketbook, you
will be throwing money away if you don’t pre-qualify the
publication you choose.

One way of pre-qualifying the publication is to send for a
sample copy. Most publishers will send them to you free of
charge for the asking. If you don’t know of any mail order
publications, just write to Glenn Bridgeman, PO Box 10150, Terra
Bella CA 93270 or William Lee, Rt 1, Box 10790, Madisonville TN
37354 and ask them to send you some. (Be sure to enclose $1 or 4
first-class postage stamps in with your request to offset
postage costs.) If you tell them you are new to mail order and
are interested in publications to advertise in, you certainly
will find the $1 you spent is well worth the effort because both
of these publishers are very reputable, honest and helpful.

Study the publication to see what other people are advertising
and how they are advertising it. Contact some of the people who
sell items similar to your own with the hope of networking with
them. You would be surprised how much free publicity You Can get
just from corresponding, calling and networking with others.

Once you locate a publication you want to advertise in, give it
a try for 3 months. If you don’t get any response or only a few
orders, try another publication. There are millions of them and
eventually you will hit the right target market that will be
interested in What You have to sell.

Cooking For Beginners part 1

Cooking is just something you didn’t do because someone else did it for you?

Just moved away from home and starting your new life?

Just married and want to learn to cook for yourself and spouse?

Trying to impress that someone special?

Tired of takeout and looking for healthier life style?

The reasons can be many.

So how does one begin learning to cook?

Well one of the main answers would be to have access to easy Recipes That You Can make with ease.

But having the right recipes would not be enough without the right cooking tools and equipment in order to prepare and present your meals.

On the next few articles I will try to cover all the basic essential cooking tools and equipment you’ll need to setup Your Kitchen and start cooking.

I will try to cover all the basics like Kitchen Utensils, Kitchen Gadgets and Cookware .

When You‘re all setup with the right tools, you’ll be more than ready to attack the art of cooking with the right Cookbooks and Recipes.

Cooking tools are essential in preparing and cooking your meals.

As with many trades you can never have enough tools.

No matter how skilled in the field one is, the job will never be accomplished without the right tools.

As an example, the top car mechanics in your neighbourhood are probably better equipped with the right tools, than the not so popular ones, though they all have the same knowledge in repairing cars.

It’s the same in the culinary world.

The right “cooking tools” will help your success in the meals you prepare, making you a better cook in the long run.

So how do I know what tools I need in my kitchen to get started?

Well the answer to this is not easy.

I would have to say in answer to this question, is read carefully what cookware and kitchen tools you will need at hand, before preparing those meals.

But we have to start somewhere.

The tools I will be suggesting are basic essentials that any kitchen will need in preparing any kind of recipe.

Kitchen tools that will be used over and over and not collecting dust in your drawers or cabinets.

The list of cooking tools I suggest are the following.

UTENSILS

All-purpose bowls, multisized

Baster/basting brush

Bottle opener

Box grater

Can Opener

Colander

Corkscrew

Cutting Board

Garlic press

Ice Cream scoop

Juicer

Pepper mill

Pizza cutter

Spatula

Tongs

Vegetable peelers

Wooden spoon

BAKING

Cookie spatula

Measuring cups

Measuring spoons

Rolling pin

Sifter

Whisk

KNIVES

Bread knife

Chef’s knife

Kitchen shears

Knife sharpener

Knives

Paring knife

Steak knives

Utility knife

If you like, visit my links bellow and maybe find out more helpful links to get you to started.

On one of the links you will also be able to find and buy all the kitchen tools you’ll need to setup your kitchen and start cooking quickly.

Thank you for reading

How To Maintain Good Relationship With Neighbors

Your neighbors are the ones who live around you. At times, you end up clashing into them more often than you even see Your Own friends or relatives. Love them or hate them, you just cannot ignore them. No matter What You do, you will always end up bumping into your neighbors every now and then. When You urgently need something, they are the first people to whom You Can turn in for help. Hence it is always good to maintain a good relationship with them. If you haven’t done that till now, it is just never late to make friends with your neighbors. In this article we are going to talk about how you can maintain a good relationship with your neighbors.

As far as possible make sure that you don’t come across as a snob to your neighbors. Make them feel comfortable in your company. Whenever you see them around you, see that you greet them. A small ‘hello’ or even a warm smile is more than enough, if you are not Very Good at making conversation. If your neighbors don’t know you at all, you can always start by introducing yourself to them. Tell them about yourself and ask them about them. This is a great way to start a relationship. Once they feel you are taking interest in getting to know them, they will also make you feel welcome around them. You can invite them over to your place sometime. It is a very kind gesture to get to know your neighbors. Sometimes you can send them small little gifts like Homemade Cookies or flowers on occasions. Soon you will find them returning their side of the favor as well. In case your neighbors need help, don’t ever hesitate to help them. Offer to help them on your own at times. They will never forget your kindness. If you are helpful to them, you will feel free to ask them for help whenever you need as well. Even if you’re already close to your neighbors, it is always important to keep in touch with them so that your relationship doesn’t dry out with time. Pay visits to them every once in a while to get to know what’s happening in their life. As much as it is important to be friendly with them, it is also important that you give them some amount of space. Never interfere in their personal life.

These are few ways how to maintain a good relationship with your neighbors.

Pasta Recipes

Tasty Pasta Recipes For Students

Pasta comes in all shapes and sizes, but contrary to the bad press surrounding the carb based food – it is healthy if cooked and prepared correctly.

Most importantly, it is also versatile, quick and easy; which is invaluable as a ‘hard-working’ and even harder-partying student.

The tasty pasta recipes below are perfect for keeping costs down, bellies full and taste buds buzzing.

So, are there any health benefits?

Due to the slower absorption and High Fiber content, wholegrain pasta helps protect against insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and constipation; we in short yes. But make sure you’re choosing the right pasta; opt for wholegrain to get full access to its benefits.

If you’re watching your weight, good news; plain, cooked white pasta contains only 239 calories per 230g serving – around a medium portion.  The misunderstanding that pasta is fattening lays in What You add to the pasta; if, for example, you team your pasta with a heavy, cream sauce such as Carbonara, the calorie intake will shoot up by 700.

Let’s get cooking

Great! Let’s get this party started. You have your pasta at the ready, now check out these Tasty Recipes; ingredients are simple, so before you go out and buy – check your fridge and cupboards.

Simple Pasta

Using dry pasta, boil the water and add a little oil to prevent the pasta from sticking (also limits washing up time!).

Once you’ve thrown the pasta into the water, add oil and garlic to a separate frying pan over a medium heat. It doesn’t need too long – the garlic shouldn’t turn brown.

With the pasta done, drain and toss in the pan with the garlic and oil, lastly adding chopped parsley and give it a stir around.

If you’re really treating yourself, sprinkle over some parmesan and you’re done in 10 minutes flat.

Tuna Pasta Bake

Preheat oven to 180 degrees and Cook Your pasta of choice according to packet instructions. (Go for fusilli or spirals – they just work better guys).

Whilst your pasta is cooking nicely, slice up some cheddar cheese – at least enough to cover the top of a medium sized baking dish -and then drain the pasta. Empty into an empty into baking dish and stir in a can of drained tuna (break up into bite-size chunks first). Finally, pour over three-quarters of a tin of tomato soup and top with that pre-sliced cheese. Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes, or at least until the cheese is bubbling and golden in colour.

Skinny Carbonara

Boil up some spaghetti according to the instructions in boiling salted water – no oil here my friends. Finely chop some smoked streaky bacon (or you may prefer pancetta or parma ham) and fry without oil until crispy.

Tip: If you are using pancetta or parma ham you will only need to lightly colour as they are already cooked – and you will need a little oil.

Once the bacon is crispy add a teaspoon of butter or Low Fat spread. Once melted, add a courgette – pre chopped into cubes – and cook until soft. Keep in mind that the smaller you chop your courgette the less time this will take.

When cooked remove from the heat & set aside. Beat two egg yolks in a bowl and add parmesan chees – around five level teaspoons – plus two teaspoons of chives, two teaspoons of parsley, and five splashes of tobasco sauce. Throw in a load of pepper (freshly ground) and a little salt (you may not want to add salt as the cheese is quite salty and so is the bacon).

Drain the pasta whilst keeping back a little water in the pan (no more than 6 tablespoons) Add the egg and cheese concoction and stir in until the cheese has melted.

Tip: Do not put the pan back on the heat or you will end up with scrambled eggs!

Stir in the smoked streaky bacon (or whatever you chose before) and serve with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese on top.

Best Nice Indian Party Recipes

Are You planning to throw a party for your friends, and have an Indian Menu on your mind? More often than not, one finds it hard to narrow down to what dishes you would serve – picking out your favorites that will work well with a diverse group is obviously a difficult choice. So here is a sample Indian Party Menu that I have created just for my readers. From Appetizers to Main Course, Sidesand Desserts, this is a perfect gathering which will please all your guests, whether Indian or not. Check out what delicacies lie beyond!

Appetizers
Start your meal in a grand style by serving any one or a combination of these appetizers. Paneer Tikka with Mango Dressing is a classic, while for bite-sized appetizers, You Can opt for these Paneer & Asparagus Lollipops or these fancy Moong Dal Basket Kachoris. If you want to keep it really simple, opt for something non-traditional, like these Baked Zucchini Fries or Vegetarian Spring Rolls.

Main Course
When it comes to main course, at least one of your dishes has to have Paneer in it – it’s a must!! My personal favorites are the Paneer Butter Masala or the quick and easy Saag (Palak) Paneer. Other non-paneer options include Mix Vegetable Korma, or Hyderabadi Baghara Baingan, which will be a big hit with spice-lovers in your group. Choose to serve these with simple Rotis or Parathas, or something fancy like Tandoori Naan, if you like, and have the time to make these at home.

Rice & Dal
For some people, a meal is incomplete without eating Rice. If you have thse people in your group, then opt for something simple like Jeera Rice, served with old-fashioned home-style Toor Dal. However, my recent favorite recipe is Pomegranate Rice Pulao with Pecans – an instant hit, and very easy to make!

Desserts & Sweet Things
Everything must have a sweet end, and does your Menu. For traditional desserts, you can choose to make RasogullaMoong-Dal Halwa, or the universal favorite Gulab Jamuns. For summers,Pistachio Ice Cream or Mango Kulfi would be a good choice, or you can go for something really simple and stress-free, like these miniAlmond-Mocha Frappes, or a flavored pudding like Coconut Panna Cotta with Berries

Whatever you choose to serve, be sure to Cook Your food with a happy mood. Because all your emotions will reflect in the final outcome, and result into a happy Meal that everyone will enjoy. Plan ahead of time, so you don’t have to do everything on the d-day; most of the curries and desserts can be prepared a day in advance. Hope you like this list of Indian recipes, and may it help you throw an unforgettable party!

If you need more inspiration, check out tonnes of more Indian recipes over at Fun and Food Cafe.

Craft Branding

Niche Crafts for online sales

Finding your niche with crafts

All crafts are unique but some are better at showing it from others.

To get your niche it’s important to realise than less means more and great origional design is a better way of making sales

Imagine two fishing boats going out to sea.

One is huge with enormous nets to fish vast areas

The other has specific nets to fish for one or two species

Now common sense implies that the larger boat will catch more fish and therefore be more successful. In most cases you would be entirely wrong.

With quotas and with catch limitations the smaller boat may be the better bet.

It’s the same with any business model and therefore having a niche in the craft market can give you a significant edge over the rest.

So what is a niche market and how Can You tap into it.

Well crafts are like every other market and by clever marketing and clever designs you too can develop a niche within your craft.

Take Toyota the car manufacturer. Toyota has developed a niche market for their Prius car based on environmental lines.

They market it in a different way from their standard cars and offer it as a niche car.

The success of the Prius shows that even in a crowded market You Can shine and stand out.

Customers are looking for

  1. Original Design. Ok you may say hold on a minute I make terracotta pots so how can I become original. The answer is you can. Look at every one of your competitor’s designs and pick out what is similar and change it so it is unique to you. What colours are least used and may be distinctive. Be careful to differentiate between unique design and poor design. The buyer wants unique but not any price
  2. Price. Having a niche gives you more freedom with your pricing. In a niche market customers are discerning and understand that they must pay for quality and uniqueness.
  3. Brands. Don’t sneer at the power of branding. Remember you are the brand and you are your crafts. If you develop a niche in your craft and develop yourself as the craft brand then buyers will flock to you.
  4. Service. No matter What You create you must give great customer service. Interact with the buyer to find out what he thinks. Keep him informed of changes or new commissions. When an order is placed get it out immediately and always put the customer at the heart of your business.

The above are simple ideas on developing your niche.

In the next blog I am going to talk about market research.

Till then bye from the Craftgo news team.

Food Writer’s Diary – Bún again

Michael Bao Huynh is still at Bún, kind of, or perhaps as much as he ever was, I’m not sure.

“He’s my brother,” said Tony Lam, who owns the place and does the food. Huynh’s a partner there, but his day-to-day involvement is minimal, except perhaps when Tony’s out of town. And maybe not then, either. (click here if you’re curious about this topic, otherwise read on as I am about to change the subject).

Because although Tony conceptualizes the food, he trains cooks to cook. He doesn’t do it himself.

Bún has a new publicist (Susan Rike), and often with a new publicist comes a new round of press dinners.

Susan’s press-dinner style is to round up four to eight journalists and bring them all to dinner at once, in a group. She tends to do three such dinners per restaurant.

Group dinners can, of course, be deadly, but there’s always the off-chance that you’ll meet someone interesting at them, and I have met a number of interesting people at Susan Rike dinners. She tends to draw an eclectic group.

I already knew (and like) the three other journalists at dinner last night, and so I could focus on getting to know Tony Lam, the Sino-Vietnamese owner, born in Saigon, spending formative years living in and then running refugee camps in Malaysia, and then going to college and becoming a merchant.

Tony kind of reminded me of my former boss and (former) guru Pansak Vinyaratn, who ran the magazine, and later the newspaper, that I worked for in Bangkok. He would wax philosophical about things and discuss them in mercurial ways that made you wonder whether he was really smart, borderline crazy or just messing with you.

But I ended up staying and listening to him talk about his approach to ambient music and his food background until after the other journalists had left, and until after Susan had left.

After dessert of pandan panna cotta (very much like the bay leaf panna cotta I had at Fireside; this might be a trend) and sweet coconut-banana tapioca, he ordered some cuttlefish for me to try.

Tony served us lots of things that weren’t on the menu, including raw green guava (underripe, the way they like it in Southeast Asia) with dried plum powder. That was sort of an intermezzo after the sweet-and-sour fish, if I remember correctly, which actually came after the lamb chops with eggplant, pear chutney and anise sauce.

Tony also interspersed the menu with drinks, including a couple of flaming shots that we were supposed to drink quickly through straws. The problem with that is that if you’re not quick about it your drink tastes like melting plastic, but I was quick.

We also had a pretty remarkable Piña Colada flavored with crushed mint, giving it a cooling effect that somehow was in no way minty. In a cocktail that I think he called the Poison Ruby, lychee liqueur was made to taste even more lychee-like with the addition of rosewater.

Who knew?
